IN THE MEDIA REPORTS: DIRECTOR AVA DURVENAY TO HELM BUDDY MOVIE STARRING LUPITA NYONG’O AND RIHANNA

The internet isn’t always a pit of cyncism and memes, sometimes they manage to get crazy ideas through that end up brining big success. This is one of those times, what started as a viral picture and short internet pitched has now turned into a living breathing project in the works.

Netflix, after an agressive and well fought bidding war has picked up an untitled Buddy Picture that has some heavyweight talents invovled. The upcoming film will be directed by Academy Award Nominated director Ava Durveny, written by Golden Globe nominated creator Issa Rae (“Insecure”) and will star Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna in the title roles.

If this news doesn’t get you excited I don’t know what will. First off, Ava Durveny is a powerhouse talent that blew the doors open to the industry with her historic drama Selma, a MLK biopic.

Issa Rae mader mainstream success with her hilarious and game chaning show “Insecure” which is about to go in it’s second season this summer, and both Nyong’o and Rihanna immensely talented, so this is a win for film fans everywhere.

A buddy movie coming from the talents of four brilliant women of color is something to be championed and I have even mad respect for Netflix for fighting so hard to get this deal.
